A 2021 report found that Black and Hispanic students had experienced a 49% and 40% reduction in arts education respectively, while white students remained unaffected.

To get leaders and educators to reconsider their stance, we go on the offensive at the biggest stage for music in the US – The Grammys. But instead of pointing fingers, we nominate them for Grammy Music Educator of the Year, an award given to educators who’ve had a lasting impact on music education. Being considered for such a huge honor makes them answerable to the music and education industry, the media and the public. If this doesn’t force someone to try to see the value in music programs, nothing will.

The QR code leads to our microsite that features a list of policy-makers and educators who’ve played a role in the decline of music education. Once the student has submitted their choice, that potential nominee receives an email from the Grammys informing them of their candidacy. The Grammy screening committee then enters into a conversation with that person to evaluate if what they have said and done in their career is Grammy-worthy. Something tells us the Grammy team is not going to like what they find out.
While the Grammy jury is likely to move on, we won’t. On the day Grammy nominations
are revealed, we’ll put up our own list of nominees based on the selections made by our page visitors. Finally, we will reveal the winner on the night of the Grammy ceremony by installing a trophy replica outside the venue and leaving it there for the world to see.
